This is the first post in a seven-part series titled, “The Security Guy recommends.” Lately I’ve been trying to do more educating, more sharing of knowledge and more HELPING. Most of my friends and family are struggling PC users who need help keeping their PCs running right and malware free. So without further adieu, I’d like to present my recommended security solutions for home PC users.
Recommendation #1: For Anti-Virus protection use Microsoft Security Essentials.
This is the easiest install-and-forget-it anti-virus program I’ve ever used. Anyone can install it and be protected in a matter of 3 minutes. It’s free, it’s effective, it doesn’t nag you (cough cough Norton/Symantec, McAfee, AVG, others), it doesn’t expire, it automatically keeps itself up-to-date, and it is non-intrusive. That means it only pops up when something really important is occurring. Everything is color coded Green, Orange, Red to clearly show status.
If you’re currently using a different anti-virus program that is constantly popping up with nags or pleas for more money, simply uninstall it and download Microsoft Security Essentials. Problem solved.
