This is the second post in a seven-part series titled, “The Security Guy recommends.” In the first post, I recommended Microsoft Security Essentials for anti-virus protection. It’s great all-around protection. Almost everyone knows they need good anti-virus (malware) protection, like Microsoft Security Essentials, running at all times. But what if you need more protection? Or just a second opinion? Have you ever clicked on the wrong website and suddenly felt that sinking feeling that *maybe* your PC just got a virus or worse? Or do you just KNOW that your PC has a stubborn virus? There’s an APP for that! Enter the world of “batch” scanners or “rescue” scanners.

I recommend that you add an alternative malware scanner to your toolchest and run it periodically. Or run it anytime you think that your PC *may* have just become infected. It’s like a big bottle of vitamin C sitting there in your medicine chest. Use it when you first start to feel sick.

Recommendation #2: Periodically run an alternative Anti-Virus scanner

Malwarebytes Free and Microsoft Safety Scanner (also free) are both very strong alternative scanners that I recommend you use periodically in a batch scan mode.

And for extremely hard to clean infections, I recommend using a bootable CD “rescue” disk from this list
